The source text of this translation project is selected from Writing in the Technical Fields: A Practical Guide written by Thorsten Ewald. The book provides easy-to-follow technical communication and technical writing principles with clear and straightforward language from theoretical study and practical guidance, respectively. The translator adopts principles of technical communication as the primary approach to guide the translation and combines principles of technical writing with English-Chinese(E-C)translation skills to improve the usability and user experience. The translator followed reader-oriented approach in the translation using second person and active voice to shorten the distance between the text and the reader. To ensure accuracy and conciseness, the translator applied precise terminology translation and concise text description. The translator made full use of parallelism,a distinguishing feature in technical documents,to improve the accessibility and reduce the cognitive burden of readers at the visual level.Meanwhile, the translator enhanced the readability and usability, helped readers better understand the source text at the content level, and bridged the gap between cross-cultural communication through localization translation.Through the technical communication approach to the translation of Writing in the Technical Fields: A Practical Guide, with case analyses in the translation process,it is hoped that this translation project can enrich the teaching resources of technical communication and technical writing in Chinese.
