The junior high school stage is the initiation and foundation period of students’ learning,and teachers need to pay attention to the development of each student and truly implement quality education.However,there are a large number of students with English learning difficulties in large governmental junior high schools,who cannot meet the basic requirements at their individual academic level.This study was conducted on students with English language learning difficulties in junior high school with the target group from a large governmental junior high school in Shanghai.The research methods of this study are questionnaire,interview,observation and case analysis.This study combines theory with practice and analyzes the necessity and feasibility of transformation strategies to help improve the students’ English academic level.Through conducting questionnaires and interviews with the students with English language learning difficulties,and studying the related data and materials,the causes were analyzed from three aspects:Personal factors: Some students have poor English learning foundation in elementary school,and with low self-efficacy they have no perseverance to keep up with their classmates’ learning progress even after entering junior high school.In general,they have weak motivation and lack of good learning habits.Teacher factors:Some teachers do not handle the difficulty of the teaching materials properly.They do not know enough about the needs of the students who are struggling with English learning.Meanwhile,they neither encourage them properly nor pay enough attention to their psychological concerns.Family factors: Some parents rarely communicate with their children effectively.The importance of English learning is neglected by some parents and they seldom tutor their children in English study.Based on the above analysis and actual teaching experience,a transformation plan is designed and the study tries to explore the effectiveness of countermeasures for students who are struggling in terms of self-acceptance and acceptance,stimulating learning interest,enhancing learning motivation,cultivating learning habits,and building good teacher-student relationships.
