Ageing is the main demographic development trend in the 21 st century, and the increase of the ageing population brings many economic problems for social development. As a common global concern, many scholars have analyzed the future trend of ageing and its impact on the economy. The material for this translation practice report is selected from chapters 3 and 4 of the financial text Economics and AgeingⅢ,which analyzes the connection between ageing and economics by introducing the current situation of the ageing. The financial text is characterized by many terms and variable sentences, especially long and difficult ones.To solve translation difficulties, this report adopts the framework of Translation Memetics put forward by Andrew Chesterman. The translator analyzes this text from syntactic, semantic and pragmatic perspectives and assesses the quality of the translation with reference to the norms in the theory. At the syntactic level, the translator adopts strategies such as “transposition” and “unit shift” to convey the meaning of the original text as far as possible. At the semantic level, the translator uses “emphasis change” and other strategies to present the translation in a form that is close to the expression of the target language. At the pragmatic level,to enhance the reader’s reading experience, the translator uses strategies include “visibility change” and visualizes the translator’s identity. In addition, the translator adds strong memes to the translation to mark the characteristics of the times so that the translation will be known by more people. The summary of translation strategies in this report hopes to provide some guidance for future Chinese translations of financial texts.
