Practice Report On E-C Translation Of EST Texts Under The Guidance Of The Memetics Theory

With the emergence of scientific and technological revolutions around the world,5G has become a popular topic in the communications and academia.5G has greatly improved the Internet business capabilities,further expanded the field of Internet of Things,and opened a new era of Internet of Everything.EST translation plays an important role in the process of promoting the development of technology and facilitating the communication on scientific achievements.EST texts are informative texts,which are characterized by professional vocabularies and long and compound sentences.The translation of EST texts is different from others.Therefore,it is necessary to use translation theory to guide this translation practice.Memetics is a new theory based on the cultural evolution theory of Darwin.As the best gene carrier of copy and dissemination in the process of information evolution,memes are the core of Memetics.The thesis selected A survey of 5G technologies: regulatory,standardization and industrial perspectives,selected from Digital Communications and Networks as translation material,which is a paper in the field of communications.The author attempts to combine Memetics with EST translation to provide a new perspective for translation practice.This article builds on a theoretical framework based on He Ziran’s classification of linguistic memes: Meme-genotypes and Meme-phenotypes.Through the replication and dissemination of linguistic memes,four transmission methods are proposed in the thesis.Combined with the characteristics of EST,corresponding translation skills are proposed for the vocabularies,sentences and texts in the 5G source text.In terms of lexical level,the translator mainly analyzes the translation of technical terms and abbreviations;in terms of syntactic level,the translator analyzes the translation strategies of passive sentences,sentences without the subjects,and long and compound sentences;in terms of textual level,the translator gives examples of cohesion and coherence in the context.Through analyzing a large number of professional vocabularies memes,accurately understanding the source language memes and selecting the best memes,we can effectively avoid some problems in the EST translation,and improve translation quality.Finally,the translator also summarizes the problems encountered in the translation and proposes corresponding solutions.
