As the platform for displaying traditional culture and history, the museums provide foreign tourists with basic understanding of Chinese culture. The translation of museum exhibition texts not only involves the conversion between different languages, but also shoulders the mission of conveying cultural information.More than 20 dynasties established their capitals in Henan in history, which means that the exhibition of Henan Museum has a high value of visiting and researching. This thesis chooses the exhibition texts of Henan Museum as the research object.Translation is a dynamic bilingual communication activity. In the process of translation of museum exhibition texts, every section of information communication is worth studying.Information Theory, founded by American mathematician Claude Shannon, focuses on the information communication, and can provide guidance for the translation of museum exhibition texts. The introduction of the concept of "noise" is one of the great advantages and innovations of the theory, which refers to the factors that affects or interferes with the communication process. All elements, including translators, should try to eliminate the interference of noise to improve the communication efficiency and achieve better communication effect.Under the guidance of Information Theory, this thesis uses professor Lyu Jun’s classification of "noise" to analyze the linguistic noise, sociological noise, physiological noise, psychological noise, and physical noise in the translation of Henan Museum exhibition texts. In addition, this thesis focuses on the translator’s role in noise reduction. It discusses the methods of noise reduction in the C-E translation of exhibition texts in Henan Museum from three perspectives.Translator can add redundancy by the methods of transliteration with annotation and amplification, relying on the accumulation and repetition of information to reduce the impact of noise.Translator can delete the high-entropy information in the museum exhibition texts that is difficult for the target audience to understand by the methods of omission,to reduce the uncertainty of information and the noise in the bilingual communication process.Translator can be close to audience capacity to reduce communication overload of content by the method of free translation.Communication overload of form can be reduced by adjusting text structure and other methods to achieve the effect of noise reduction. This thesis summarizes the problems and translation methods in the translation of Henan Museum exhibition texts and provides references for the translation practice of museum exhibition texts in the future.
