A Report On The Translation Of Film Reviews Of The World Of English Magazine-Guided By Skopos Theory

This project is commissioned by the magazine The World of English to translate relevant film reviews of English films and television dramas.The translator began on April 28,2021,and was entrusted to translate popular film reviews on IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes websites for the magazine’s Wechat official account “Movies”.This practice has excerpted the hot film review contents of about 30 films and television dramas,aiming to find the characteristics of film review texts and analysis the selection of relevant translation theories and translation strategies.Taking into account the representativeness and comprehensiveness of the source text,the translator selected various types of films when selecting translation materials,and most of the texts were excerpted from high-scoring film reviews,including both professional film reviews and those of ordinary audiences.This report uses Skopos theory as a guide to illustrate the selection of specific translation strategies for film review texts at the lexical and syntactic levels under the guidance of Skopos theory.Due to the features of the film review text itself,the study confirms that the translation under the guidance of Skopos theory can better realize the influence of the original text on the audience.The film review is an important part of film culture.High-quality film reviews play a significant role in promoting the development of film culture.The translator hopes that the practice can make a contribution to helping film-related practitioners to overcome the obstacles of language and culture when they search for film reviews,at the same time,provide a reference for students who translate film review texts.
