The Last Quarter of the Moon is a masterpiece of Chi Zijian, which captures the memory of an ethnic group’s history spanning one hundred years and all of its ups and downs. In the novel,Chi not only conveys the deep aesthetic meaning of Ewenki folk culture, but also portrays many female characters with unique aesthetic features. The unique aesthetic qualities of literary works determine the important value of aesthetics in the evaluation and translation of literary works. However,no studies have been found in the English version of this highly aesthetic work from the perspective of Liu Miqing’s translation aesthetics. Therefore, this study takes Liu Miqing’s translation aesthetics theory as a support to explore the aesthetic information of female image in The Last Quarter of the Moon.On the basis of analyzing the aesthetic features of the female characters in the source texts, the author focuses on how the female characters in Bruce Humes’ English translation are aesthetically represented through translation, starting from two aspects: formal system and non-formal system. It is found that in the formal system, the aesthetic information at the phonetic level is related to rhythm and rhyme which can can increase the musicality of language and evoke the readers’ aesthetic awareness at the same time;at the lexical level,in addition to the choice of words and the ABC principle, the deletion of some words is equally important for the representation of the character in a different language, usually to weaken certain personality characteristics of characters;at the syntactic level, the difference between Chinese and English language conventions is the main reason for the syntactic variation, and the change of citation form plays a key role in the expression of characters. At the syntactic level, the difference between Chinese and English language conventions is the main reason for syntactic variation, and the variation of quotation form plays a key role in character expression. In the non-formal system, grasping the author’s emotion and intention in the original text is the basis for determining the overall style of the translation;imagery,as the aesthetic information of the ambiguous set,can convey the emotional connotation of the characters and the aesthetic meaning of the original text;when readers interpret the meaning beyond the language, their aesthetic imagination is triggered, resulting in a distinct and unique aesthetic effect.Through different translation methods, the translation successfully represents the traditional grace and great tolerance of Tamara, the selflessness and devotion of Nihau, the multifaceted complexity and rebellion of Yveline,as well as Irina’s bewildered search for spiritual belonging. This thesis, taking translation aesthetics as a guide to carry out the research, expands the possibilities of the critical path of the English version of The Last Quarter of the Moon;the specific discussions in the translation at the levels of phonetics, lexis, syntax,as well as sentiment, imagery and meaning beyond language can provide reference for future translators in literary translation from the perspective of translation aesthetics.
