| Logic is one of the most basic requirements of an informative text, linguistic logic is what we have to say to make it smooth and fluent. The principles of linguistic logic are complete, concise and coherent. However, the shortage of studies of logic relations is still a challenge for translation practice.Secondly, compared with the previous tendency to focus on Western learning,in recent years, more and more translators have begun to focus on the output of C-E translation practice in order to spread the excellent Chinese traditional culture.Engineering texts,as one of the branches, bear unique disciplinary characteristics, and translating engineering texts is of great significance for enriching C-E translation practice both theoretically and practically.Based on the above reasons, this translation practice selects the first chapter of Fundamentals of Engineering Drawing as the translation material,in which many implicit logical relations abound, aiming to make up for this deficiency. In terms of text type, the original text is informative, focusing on teaching and aiming to convey information. From the perspective of style, the original language is objective, with a mixture of long and short sentences, with long sentences piled up and logical relationships hidden, which need to be clarified and made explicit.Based on this, the translation task mainly solves two problems: 1)how to find out the implicit logic in the original text;2)how to make the implicit logic explicit in the translated text,so that the logical relationship is accurate and clear. The translator chooses Reiss’ s text typology theory as the theoretical basis. The case study method is used to analyze and solve the difficult problems encountered in practice.According to Reiss, analyzing text type is a prerequisite for translators to choose translation techniques and a basis for translation criticism.Based on previous researches,Reiss classified texts into informational, expressive, operative and audiovisual texts from the perspective of language function. The translation should be in plain prose, without redundancy and with the use of explicitation when required.Reiss divides translation into phase of analysis and phase of re-verbalization.In the analysis stage, the translator must first analyze the functional type, text genre and language style of the original text;in the re-verbalization stage, the translator uses words, sentences and paragraphs to organize the target text so that it achieves functional equivalence and faithfully and completely reproduces the content of the original text.Under the guidance of text typology theory, the translator adopts such techniques as adding relational words, changing sentence structure, splitting long sentences and semantic specification to make the implicit logic explicit in the target language. It is found that through these translation techniques the implicit logical relations can be made explicit and the quality of the translation can be improved. It shows that the application of text typology theory is of high value in transforming implicit logical relations in informative texts. |
