| The source text of this report is selected from some chapters of The Tao of Chinese:Exploring the Origin of Chinese Characters.This book explores the fact that Chinese characters and Chinese culture are of the same origin,and suggests returning to the origin to learn and study Chinese characters.Translating this text can help target language readers realize the development of Chinese Characters.Translating the text under the guidance of cohesion theory is beneficial for enhancing the semantic connection of the target text.Therefore,this practice adopts the cohesion theory as a guide,using cohesive devices to translate implicit cohesion in the source text,in order to achieve better coherence in the target text.This report mainly consists of five chapters.The first chapter is the description of the translation task,consisting mainly of the introduction to the source text and the significance of the practice and the introduction to the translation processes.The second chapter is an overview of the translation process,which including pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation.The third chapter is the literature review.It mainly reviews domestic and overseas research on cohesion theory,as well as the application of cohesion theory to translation studies.The fourth chapter is the case study.In this part,the translator analyzed the cases under the guidance of cohesion theory.The fifth chapter is the summary.This chapter outlines the major findings of this translation practice,its limitations,and suggestions for future studies.This practice proves that using appropriate cohesive devices to translate the implicit cohesion can help the target text achieve a better cohesive effect.Also,by combining cohesion theory and adopting translation methods according to situational and cultural contexts,the target text can be more effective in achieving the equivalence of ideational,interpersonal and textual functions. |
