This report is a case study of the C-E translation of Chinese online literature work Fifteen Days On the Run written by Ma Boyong. The novel tells a story of Zhu Zhanji, the prince of Ming Dynasty, running away from the reserved capital,Nanjing, because of a coup, and going back to real capital,Beijing,to recapture his throne with the assistance of three other major characters. It also depicts the culture and livelihood of the Ming Dynasty with compacted plots and vivid language. This report is guided by Vermeer’s skopos theory and consists of five chapters:task description, translation process, literature review, case analysis and conclusion.Among them, case analysis is the main part of the report. With the guidance of the three rules of skopos theory, the author discusses the translation methods and skills adopted for online literature works, based on its characteristics.Under the guidance of skopos rule, the author uses the translation methods of addition of connectives, shift of subjects, and explanation of culture-specific items to achieve the corresponding translation purpose.Under the guidance of coherence rule, the author uses the methods of combination of four-character phrases, supplementation of constituents and identification of predicates to make the translation comply with the expression habit of target language.Under the guidance of fidelity rule, the author uses the translation methods of paraphrasis of metaphors, explicitation of colloquial expression and literal translation of place names to make the translation faithfully convey the content of source text.Through the translation practice, the author finds that skopos theory can effectively guide the translation of online literature works.Meanwhile the corresponding translation skills can also be adopted under the guidance of the three rules of skopos theory to improve the translation quality of online literature works and thus to promote the overseas dissemination of such literature works.
