The Kexuan Controversy:A Discussion And Practice Of Reconstructing The Chinese And Western Cultural Exchange Model

After decades of social changes,the country’s situation of poverty and weakness remained unchanged,and the outbreak of the European War made the trend of reflecting on the capitalist system spread around the world."Under the influence of traditional Chinese cultural characteristics,the "Science and Genocide War" was born.Among them,the scientific school,represented by Chen Duxiu,Hu Shi and Ding Wenjiang,firmly believed that only science could change China,while the Western countries,the birthplace of modern scientific theories,were at war with each other but did not affect China’s learning of their scientific theories,methods and spirits.On the other hand,the school of metaphysics led by Zhang Junmai,Liang Qichao,and Lin Zaiping opposed the status quo of the intellectual world,especially the"scientific-only" theory,which was constantly westernizing China.The peculiarity of this controversy lies in its attempt to establish an ideological line of thought before seeking a practical breakthrough,as both sides of the controversy realized that it was no longer possible to roughly westernize or keep to the old ways,as in any previous social change movement,but to think about how to reconstruct a new model of cultural exchange between China and the West.Although the practical activities of each faction eventually received different degrees of setbacks,the value of this controversy is not reflected in the outcome of the final path chosen,but the discussion of methods arising from the same aim of salvation deserves to be recognized with a double affirmation of its value.
