Research On Gansu Writing By The Intellectual Elite In The Republic Of China Period(1929-1945)

Since the 19th century,China has faced a huge crisis of the great powers and the division of sovereign territory,the stimulation of the invasion of the great powers and the impact of advanced Western ideas have awakened a large number of people of insight,they take the salvation and survival as their own responsibility,set off a wave of frontier research,by the twentieth century,under the inspiration of the critical survival of the nation,more and more social elites began to pay attention to the importance of border politics,under the influence of various conditions and factors,a large number of inspection delegations,journalists,scholars,politicians went to the northwest for investigation and research.From the twenties to the forties of the twentieth century,a northwest exploration fever was formed,and in this boom,a large number of writings about Gansu emerged,and Gansu,which used to be a "frontier land",began to be gradually known and understood by the people.The writing activities about Gansu in this development of the northwest boom lasted for nearly two decades,and many writers participated in it,due to the change of time and the subjectivity and objectivity of the writers involved,resulting in the writing of Gansu and its diversification during this period.Although the main subjects of writing are Gansu,but under different writing,Gansu presents many different images,this article is based on these diversified writing,explore different periods and different writers of Gansu,take the writing of Gansu in this period as a social activity,explore the reasons for this activity,the changes in different periods,the behavior of the participating subjects,and the historical and cultural significance brought by the activities.In general,the cultural significance of this writing activity is higher than the economic significance,although from today’s point of view,the development of the northwest did not bring substantial changes to the economic situation of Gansu in the end,but the writing activity itself has had a great impact on the construction of national consciousness and the concept of the Chinese nation.Although the original intention of this writing boom was to develop and build Gansu,on the whole,until the end of the Anti-Japanese War,although Gansu’s economic situation and infrastructure developed but did not change substantially,there were still great differences compared with other places,and even economic development declined after the end of the Anti-Japanese War.From a cultural point of view,this writing activity has great significance,on the one hand,it reshaped the image of Gansu and made the Chinese people aware of the importance of Gansu,on the other hand,the concept of the national and Chinese nation gradually spread in the writing process and was recognized by more people.
