As an important concept throughout the history of calligraphy,“the ancient technique of calligraphy in the Wei and Jin Dynasties” has rich connotations. At first, this paper briefly introduces the meaning and specific expression forms of “the ancient technique of calligraphy in the Wei and Jin Dynasties”.Its main expression forms are the inscription calligraphy in the north and south of the Wei and Jin Dynasties, and “hardwood calligraphy” represented by the “two Wangs”(Wang Xizhi and Wang Xianzhi).Because of the calligraphy reform that Wang Xizhi and others participated in,the “modern style”(the general form of calligraphy)was born, which conformed to the trend of the times and the development of calligraphy. The calligraphy of the “two Wangs”,in the form of “modern style”,reached the peak in the history of art by virtue of the “Jiangzuo Fengliu”(the romanticism of the Wei and Jin Dynasties)based on the metaphysics(the thought of Laozi and Zhuangzi)of the Jin’s people, and thus became the main connotation in the inheritance of “the ancient technique of calligraphy in the Wei and Jin Dynasties”.With Wang Xizhi in the Tang Dynasty regarded as “the Sage of Calligraphy”,“the ancient technique of calligraphy in the Wei and Jin Dynasties” represented by him was officially established as the main venation of calligraphy development. The connotation of “the ancient technique of calligraphy in the Wei and Jin Dynasties” has been enriched and developed in the process of inheritance and evolution. Therefore, this paper then discusses the evolution of the meaning of “the ancient technique of calligraphy in the Wei and Jin Dynasties” in the inheritance of the past dynasties,in order to gain a comprehensive understanding of “the ancient technique of calligraphy in the Wei and Jin Dynasties”.Finally,in the Qing Dynasty,“the ancient technique of calligraphy in the Wei and Jin Dynasties” had little space for further development. The subjective will of the emperor made the“hardwood calligraphy” become a “practical product” with the appearance of ancient method but no connotation. In the process of development, the “stone tablet calligraphy” first reconstructed the aesthetic basis of “the ancient technique of calligraphy in the Wei and Jin Dynasties”,then established a new calligraphy classic, completed the overall coordination of the various calligraphic styles in “the ancient technique of calligraphy in the Wei and Jin Dynasties”,and finally structured its spiritual core.It has achieved a complete reconstruction of “the ancient technique of calligraphy in the Wei and Jin Dynasties”.The reconstruction of “the ancient technique of calligraphy in the Wei and Jin Dynasties” by the “stone tablet calligraphy”(the study of stone tablet calligraphy)has brought new development and creative methodology to it,and introduced more abundant aesthetic concepts, making “the ancient technique of calligraphy in the Wei and Jin Dynasties” rejuvenate from a new starting point. So far,the “stone tablet calligraphy” and “the ancient technique of calligraphy in the Wei and Jin Dynasties” are the same venation, and have built a complete system of calligraphy, which has brought more possibilities for the future generations to create and develop calligraphy theory.
