Li Bochan’s erhu compositions are technically and musically innovative, emotionally complex, and have significant cultural and ideological connotations, demonstrating a flawless fusion of tradition and modernity which is popular with audience and performers.Theoretical analyses of Li Bochan’s erhu works have steadily improved in recent years;however, the majority of researchers have focused on a single work rather than providing a comprehensive analysis of his erhu works. In order to make the study more comprehensive and systematic, the author has used documentary analysis, interviews, and performance practice to evaluate Li Bochan’s erhu works in two dimensions:creative and performance challenges. The aim of this paper is to deepen and widen the scope of the study,to investigate the general traits and patterns of Li Bochan’s erhu works, and to enable performers to completely comprehend the artistic concepts and musical connotations of Li Bochan’s erhu works. The text is divided into four chapters:The first chapter provides a brief overview of Li Bochan’s creative background and his erhu works, analyzing the interconnections between the works and grasping Li Bochan’s erhu works as a whole. The second chapter summarizes the 3overall characteristics of Li Bochan’s erhu works by exploring the artistic characteristics and connotations of the works through three levels:subject content, structure, and melody, laying a theoretical foundation for performers to interpret his works. In Chapter 3,representative difficult fragments of Li Bochan’s erhu works are given in terms of fingering technique, bowing technique, and intonation and rhythm, and corresponding training methods are proposed to facilitate players’ training in order to improve their own performance. The fourth chapter discusses Li Bochan’s contribution to the development of erhu art,the current development of erhu, and the inheritance and innovation of Li Bochan’s erhu works. |
