| Handel composed the opera "Julius Caesar" in 1723,which is based on the historical story of Egypt and tells the story of Caesar’s love affair with Cleopatra in Egypt,as well as the development of war and power.Each character in the play has an aria representing his image,among which several arias of Caesar and Cleopatra have become widely sung classics.Return from the Storm" is an aria sung by Cleopatra in the third scene of the third act,and is an aria permeated with the flamboyant,dazzling and regular characteristics of Baroque music,the greatest characteristic of the soprano aria of this period is lyricism and drama.The overall setting of the music and the tonality of the piece are characterized by a well thought out and rigorous style that is not boring at the same time.The work has a high aesthetic value,and the singing needs to fully and exaggeratedly express the joy and excitement of her seeing the light,regaining her power and love,as well as her emotions.Julius Caesar is one of Handel’s most iconic operas,and Cleopatra’s soprano aria is the core of the opera’s development.This paper uses literature research,work analysis,case studies and the summary of one’s own practical experience in the preparation of this paper.The article is divided into three chapters.The first chapter compares the historical background of the composition and the composer;the second part analyzes the different styles of Cleopatra’s arias to show her rich characterization;the third part focuses on the aria "Return from the storm" and conducts a comprehensive and profound study on the structure of the piece and the singing techniques,combining its own study and singing experience. |
