Farewell to Cambridge is the first small theater opera in China,and also a breakthrough opera in the development of Chinese national opera.Its genre can be traced back to the art experiment of "Free Theatre" in France at the end of the 19 th century.It was originally an art experiment of "Free Theatre" initiated by Ibsen,a Norwegian dramatist,to reform the western drama.Later,it spread to all countries in the world.The successful performance of Farewell to Cambridge in 2001 marked a new chapter in Chinese opera.After 19 years,Farewell to Cambridge was staged again under the guidance and rehearsal of my tutor.I was lucky to play the role of Lu Xiaoman.After in-depth understanding of the role,unexpected problems were found in the role shaping and voice shaping,which were successfully solved through thinking and running in the rehearsal process.Therefore,as for Lu Xiaoman’s role,the author believes that there is still much room for exploration and excavation.The research content of this article involves the background of the times,the psychological analysis of the characters,the psychological process of stage image shaping and the treatment of the two aria to analyze the mezzo soprano Lu Xiaoman in Farewell to Cambridge.
