Chinese avant-garde novels made a name for itself in the mid to late 1980s.As a member of the group of avant-garde writers,Ge Fei also ascended the literary circle during this period and created a number of experimental novels.Since the 1990s,as the influence of avant-garde literature has gradually weakened,the avant-garde writers have also undergone a transformation.In this process,although Ge Fei’s response was not as rapid as that of Yu Hua and Su Tong,etc.,he continued to look for new narrative possibilities.He gradually stepped out of his infatuation with modernism and postmodernism,and moved to a wider literary field by drawing on the narrative mode of Chinese classical literature and traditional novels.Through this transformation,we can see Ge Fei’s different narration tactics and literature ideas about "time" in different periods.This paper attempts to take the narrative time in Ge Fei’s novels as the entry point,through the analysis and comparison of his novels in his more than 30 years of writing career,based on the historical and cultural context and author’s own experience,to summarize and understand the changes in the narrative strategy and literary ideas in the process of his re-creation,and to deeply explore how to view the transformation of Ge Fei’s creation.Apart from preface and conclusion,this paper is divided into three chapters.The introduction part summarizes the current research status of the academic circle on Ge Fei and his creation,and on this basis the research ideas of this paper are summarized.The first chapter,starting from the creation process of Ge Fei,divides his creation process into two stages:joining the vanguard literature camp,making creative adjustment and starting again,and briefly analyzes the influence of social environment,cultural atmosphere and personal experience on Ge Fei’s literary creation concept in each period.The second chapter is based on Ge Fei’s choice of narrative time strategy,combining with specific works to compare the differences in the treatment of narrative timing,narrative frequency and narrative rhythm before and after the transformation.In terms of narrative timing,in the vanguard period,Ge Fei’s novels presented a disordered state,cutting off the original causal logic of the story,but after the transformation of the novel,the story is enhanced,and the narrative time is coherent and fluent,so that the form contains more meaning.In terms of narrative frequency,"vacancy" is one of the most important characteristics of Ge Fei’s creation in the period of pioneering exploration.With the reading and learning of Chinese classical novels,he supplemented and answered the "vacancy" in the novel with the technique of "grass snake gray line",which made the text from completely open and uncertain to clear and clear.In terms of narrative time interval,Ge Fei adjusts the time interval mainly by changing the relationship between time and space,forming different narrative rhythms.From the initial supremacy of space to the river returning to time,form and meaning gradually realize the integration.The third chapter mainly explores the literary concept behind the narrative time strategy and discusses Ge Fei’s different ways of questioning the linear view of time in different periods.In the pioneer period,Ge Fei fought against macro time with individual time.He paid attention to the individual life situation in the historical flood,showed the individual psychological time,and explored the contingency and irrationality.After the adjustment of his creation,Ge Fei realized the integration of individual and history with an inclusive attitude,but he found the more fundamental time motive of "cycle and reincarnation",and thought about the meaning of survival in the alternations of natural time and the reincarnation of life course.In the epilogue,the author summarizes the changes of narrative time strategy and literary ideas in Ge Fei’s novels,and puts forward some views on how to view the transformation of Ge Fei’s creation.While making creative adjustments,Ge Fei retains his own pioneering characteristics.His transformation is not a jump from one kind to another,but a self-growth in the process of sublation.
