“néng,huì,yào”are three very important modal verbs in Chinese,and they are also three modal verbs that will be learned at the primary stage when learning Chinese as a second language.Since these three modal verbs are all polysemous modal verbs,they can express three modal types: power,morality,and cognition.And in the same modal type,there are many differences in meaning and usage of these modal verbs.Therefore,learners of Chinese language often can not grasp it well.This situation also occurs in Chinese language learners in Pakistan.It is very necessary to investigate the situation of Chinese language learners in Pakistan in acquiring “néng,huì,yào” and to study how to improve teaching them,but there are still relatively few studies in this area.So this thesis has carried on this research.This thesis is divided into six parts: the first chapter is the introduction,which introduces the reasons for choosing the topic of this thesis,research objectives,research significance and research methods,etc.,and conducts a literature review of previous studies.The second chapter conducts a comparative analysis of the meaning and grammar of the Chinese “néng,huì,yào” and Urdu similar modal verbs.The third chapter is based on questionnaires,and analyzes the error performance of Pakistani students when they acquire Chinese“néng,huì,yào”: misrepresentation,wrong sequence,omission,etc.The fourth chapter analyzes the reasons why Pakistani students have these errors.The fifth chapter puts forward teaching suggestions for the teaching of "can,know,and need",and designs practical and feasible teaching plans of“néng,huì,yào” based on modality types.The sixth chapter is the conclusion.At present,there are few researchers on the acquisition of“néng,huì,yào”for Pakistani students.It is hoped that the comparative research,investigation and analysis,teaching suggestions and teaching design of this thesis can improve the classroom teaching quality of “néng,huì,yào”.
