| This report is a review of a study based on the Chinese-to-English task of the academic on politics entitled The Realization of the Historical Mission of Literature and Art in Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era accomplished by the translator herself under the guidance of her supervisor.The source text,selected from Chapter VI,focuses on Chinese literature and art,discussing the basic topics of Chinese literature and art put forward by General Secretary Xi Jinping in his speeches,which aims to deepen the reform of online literature and art and to bring out the most positive quality of the internet.The original text is a type of academic writing,in which the autoreactive content is usually encouraged.The characteristics of academic writing are professional,academic,original,authentic,and scientific.This report illustrates the process of pre-translation,while-translation,and post translation.In the pre-translation stage,the translator carefully reads the full text to analyze its stylistics features and the meanings between the lines on the basis of detailed collection of related materials.As an authoritative political academic text,the original text requires the translator to reproduce the original meanings in an objective and accurate language.To achieve this goal,the translator adapts the translation standard of“Faithfulness,Expressiveness,and Elegance” put forward by Yan Fu.Under its guidance,the translator has used a number of translation skills including domestication,explanation,adjustment,combination,subject-prominent method,and hypotaxis prominent method to achieve Faithfulness,Expressiveness,and Elegance on the lexical,syntactic,and textual level in the target text.This translation practice improves that Yan Fu’s “Faithfulness,Expressiveness,and Elegance” translation standard can become the translation principle of academic translation from Chinese to English.It is hoped that the translation practice and report will shed some light on this kind of translation. |
