Mily Alekseyevich Balakirev(1837-1910)is a famous Russian composer,conductor and pianist in the 19 th century,he is also the leader of the "powerful group" of five people in Russia,his contribution to Russian music and world music cannot be underestimated.Balakirev’s creation is rooted in the Russian local music tradition and devoted to promoting the national music culture.On the other hand,he has a wide understanding of folk music elements around the world,and uses this as a magic weapon to innovate music.His music works not only has distinct Russian musical characteristics,but also presented multiple exotic colors.The representative works of Balakirev’s instrumental music includes two symphonies,four orchestral overtures,the soundtrack of "King Lear",the symphonic poem "Tamara",and the piano fantasia "Islame".The First Symphony,the object of this article was composed in 1864,it is a symphonic work completed by Balakirev’s creative cycle of 33 years.In his two symphonies,The First Symphony is more representative,although the creative cycle is relatively long,it is also a summary of his creative ability,which can better reflect his continuous pursuit of music creation.This paper mainly analyzes and studies the creation background,structural thinking and multi-angle composition technical characteristics of the symphony.It is divided into three chapters:the first chapter mainly expounds the background of Balakirev and his music creation;the second chapter,starting from the music itself,makes a deep analysis of the musical structure thinking of each movement;the third chapter makes a deep analysis and research on the whole symphony by combining the diversity characteristics of theme melody,complex and changeable rhythm application,mode tonality and harmony and other composition techniques.This paper explores the musical characteristics of Balakirev’s combination of western composition techniques and Russian folk tunes as a creative technique.
