Public space is both the charm of cities and the difficulty of urban management.The text of this translation practice report is selected from the second chapter of the sociological book Contesting Public Spaces: Social Lives of Urban Redevelopment in London,which emphasizes the concern for spatial justice and reveals the challenges of designing,managing,and living in London’s public spaces.There are many technical terms and complex sentences in the original text.Accordingly,the key and difficult points are explored at two levels-words and syntactics.At the lexical level,the translation methods of lexical extension,lexical shift and amplification are adopted.When it comes to the syntactic level,the change of the voices is applied in translating passive sentences.As to the translation of complex sentences,the methods of hysteron proteron and splitting are adopted.It is hoped that this translation practice can offer some references and insights for domestic people interested in the relevant field and professionals studying related speciality. |
