In this report, the first part of a book published in 2017,<Meet and marriage> is selected as the translation text and analyzed. One of the important reasons for the author to choose this book as a translation text is that China and Japan began to face some similar social problems.Specifically, since entering the 21 st century,China has not only experienced rapid economic development, but also began to face many social problems that Japan has experienced or is experiencing. For example, population ageing, fewer children, late marriage, unmarried and other phenomena. Therefore, the translation of the book is particularly important for scholars studying Japanese society. It can provide thinking and data for researchers as an advance study. At the same time, for ordinary readers, will also be through this book to understand the Japanese social culture.Of course, this translation practice report will also provide some evidence for the translation of information texts in the relevant fields of sociology.Based on the Text Typology Theory of Peter Newmark the text type of this translation can be defined as information text,so this translation practice will be based on the following three key points of translation and analysis.First, the content of the text relates to the area of expertise.Based on this, the author will choose appropriate translation methods for the“Culture-loaded words”and“Professional terms” in the book.In other words,in order to make the translation acceptable to the Chinese readers, the author bases on the“Acceptable”translation of the initial norms and focuses on the target language culture.Secondly,in the process of description and expression of information texts, there will be more complex syntax, the author will standardize the long and difficult sentences according to the text-inguistic norms.Thirdly,it is necessary for the translator to be as objective and neutral as possible in translating information texts,so the author tries to use ordinary discourse sentence patterns.Based on the above three points, the author not only considers the“Acceptability”of the initial norms in the process of translating this sociological text, but also strictly observes the“Adequate”translation. To sum up,the author chooses the powerful and binding Toury’s translation norms theory to guide the translation practice of this information text.Toury’s translation norms theory is also divided into preliminary norms, initial norms and operational norms. The author will make use of the above three norms and establish specific translation strategies to analyze the translation problems encountered in the process of translation.First of all, according to the preliminary norms, based on "Social and cultural influence","Reader’s expectation","The author’s preference" and "The choice of the original text",the author chooses<Meet and marriage>as the translation text of this report.Secondly, under the restriction of the initial norms and with the target language as the guide, the author takes "Acceptability" translation as the translation orientation and tries to keep the "Adequacy" of the translation. Finally, the author chooses appropriate translation strategies, such as omission and free translation,to make the translation more in line with the norms.Through this translation practice, the author finds that the three translation norms proposed by Toury are of guiding significance to the selection of texts and the choice of translation strategies. The case study of this paper also starts from the three norms, and analyzes the choice of text, the orientation of translation, and the choice of means,it provides a practical proof for the applicability of Toury’s translation norms theory to sociological texts.
