A Report On Translating Industrial Report From The Perspective Of Functional Stylistics

The rise of logistics industry in China,coupled with the steady advance of the "New Infrastructure" program,has provided a huge market demand for this industry.The case used in this report is Savoye Chinese Market Strategic Analysis Report,an industrial report on logistics and warehousing industry with Savoye corporation as the case analysis for Novo Nordisk’s reference.Savoye is a leading European manufacturer,software provider and system integrator.This report was accomplished by Beijing Wuzi University and the author was assigned to the C-E translation.Under the background of globalization,frequent international communication and cooperation require industrial reports to be written in English,or an English version should be provided.The proper and precise translation of industrial reports on the logistics and warehousing industry is essential to present an overview of China’s logistics and warehousing industry to the world,thus empowering the "New Infrastructure" program.This translation report introduces the essence and characteristics of translating industrial reports.Through case analysis conducted from ideational function,interpersonal function and textual function perspectives in light of the metafunction theory of Functional Stylistics,the author summarized corresponding translation strategies and methods.The author found that industrial reports have objective,precise and abbreviated stylistics.Besides,in the chapters that depict customer relationship and strategic positioning,the function of advice and guidance is realized.Functional Stylistics can guide translators to deal with technical texts with distinct stylistic features,such as industrial reports.Therefore,translators should not only focus on the lexical and syntactic levels,but also adopt Functional Stylistics to reproduce the stylistic features of the source text.
