| Reduplication is a common grammatical device in Chinese.Verbs and adjectives can be reduplicated to form new forms,expressing meanings that are not present in the basic form.These forms sometimes trouble second language learners.This paper takes the three syllabuses as the standard,combines some works and researches,examines the arrangement of verb reduplication and adjective reduplication in the three sets of textbooks of the elementary level "Developing Chinese","Boya Chinese"and "Road to Success",and conducts a comparative study in terms of forms and distribution,notes and example sentences,and exercise setting.Based on the analysis of the statistical results,we found that all three textbooks involved the grammatical point of verb reduplication.For adjective reduplication,"Road to Success" did not include it as a separate grammatical point in the textbook.The choice of reduplicated forms in the textbooks is incomplete.All three textbooks are designed to repeat the grammar points in subsequent lessons.Some grammar notes in the three textbooks are too concise,even omitting some important grammatical meanings,and the problem of adjective reduplication is more serious in this regard.All sample sentences are standardized.The example sentences are reasonable in terms of word choice.But there are some different problems in the adequacy of the sample sentences in the three textbooks.The number of exercises of verb reduplication and adjective reduplication is quite substantial in the total number of exercises in this lesson,but the pattern of the exercises is relatively single.All these will affect students’ mastery of the two grammar points of verb and adjective reduplication.Finally,according to the results of comparative analysis,this paper puts forward some suggestions on the arrangement of verb reduplication and adjective reduplication in elementary comprehensive TCSOL textbooks.The syllabus’requirements should be taken as the standard.The choice of forms and the annotation of grammatical meaning should be as comprehensive as possible.Example sentences should be standardized,reasonable and sufficient.Pay attention to the role of exercises,reasonably control the number of exercises,and arrange different types of exercises easy to difficult. |
