Abstract/Summary:
Limited by natural conditions,Egypt’s development has been limited to the Nile Valley and delta, which has not fundamentally changed since entering modern times. Moreover, due to the continuous promotion of urbanization, this phenomenon has become more and more prominent, which makes Egypt’s urban development and population distribution show extremely uncoordinated characteristics.Since the Nasser revolution, the Egyptian government has been trying to use the vast desert to reverse this situation. To this end, successive Egyptian governments have made many major strategic arrangements, such as the reclamation of desert land in Nasser period, the "desert greening" plan in Sadat period, and the construction of new towns implemented in the same period and continuously promoted so far.Egypt has been trying to transfer the surplus population in Greater Cairo by developing new towns, but until now,it has achieved poor results. This paper attempts to sort out the construction process of new towns in Egypt, and analyze the reasons why it is difficult to work. The paper is divided into three parts: introduction, body and conclusion. The introduction introduces the purpose and significance of the topic, the research status of relevant contents at home and abroad, and defines the concept used in this paper, such as "New Town".The text is divided into four parts. The first part briefly introduces and analyzes the imbalance of urban development, population distribution and the development of Greater Cairo, and outlines the background of new urban construction in Egypt since the 1970 s.The second part first introduces the reasons, objectives and relevant measures to ensure the implementation of the new urban policy. The third part discusses the process of new town construction in Egypt since the 1970 s.According to the years of large-scale new town construction by the Egyptian government and some differences in each stage,it can be roughly divided into four stages, that is,the first stage from the 1970 s to the early 1980 s and the second stage from the early 1980 s to the early 1990 s,From the early 1990 s to before the coup in Egypt in 2011,it was the third stage, and since 2011,it has been the fourth stage. The fourth part discusses the achievements and existing problems in the construction of new towns in Egypt, and analyzes the causes of the problems. The conclusion summarizes the full text, and expresses its own views on the possible reference value of the construction of new towns in Egypt to China’s urban development.
