| The source text for this translation report is excerpted from Kraak Porcelain—A Moment in the History of Trade written by Maura Rinaldi.Kraak porcelain plays an important role in the ceramic trade and the ceramic culture exchange between China and the West.As the first major monograph of Kraak porcelain written by western scholars, this book details the historical background, definition, classification and imitations of Kraak porcelain, serving as an important reference for Kraak porcelain research. The author selected the fourth chapter for translation practice, which focuses on the imitation of Kraak porcelain in various countries around the world.Based on the framework“Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation”proposed by Li Changshuan, the report faithfully presents the process of translation practice, elaborates on the translation problems, analyzes the causes and puts forward corresponding solutions. In Comprehension, the translator discusses the use of context and parallel text to comprehend the source text, solving the difficulties of translating ceramic terminology and common vocabulary. In Expression, the translator pays special attention to the differences between English and Chinese expressions, adjusts the sentence structure according to sentence logic, and makes the text translation match the corresponding illustration. The translation of ceramic text needs adaptation, including adding classifiers and translator’s notes if necessary.Through the translation practice, the translator concludes that the ceramic text translation can be effectively conducted within CEA theoretical framework, and the findings of this report are of valuable reference for future ceramic translation. |
