| This is a translation practice report,in which the specific steps and analysis process of this translation task are described and summarized with From the Forbidden City to the Palace Museum(Chapters 10 and 11)written by Zhu Yong as C-E translation materials,including introduction,translation task description,source text analysis,case analysis,and conclusion.As a gift for the 600th anniversary of the Forbidden City,From the Forbidden City to the Palace Museum,based on human warmth and historical mystery,reviews the Forbidden City Stories in different historical periods in the spatial order of visit familiar to readers with literary techniques,so that readers can feel the rhythm of life in the Forbidden City.In response to the translation difficulties of culture-loaded words,ancient poems and prose,and descriptive discourse in the source text,based on the language differences and cultural defaults between Chinese and English,proper translation methods and techniques are discussed in this thesis through the analysis of the language expression style and cultural connotation of the text with relevant background materials and professional books for reference,so as to achieve the purpose of information communication and cultural transmission and provide certain references for the future translation study of the Forbidden City culture.For this cultural treasure,the Forbidden City,communication of the splendid culture via translation as a bridge is of great significance.However,owing to the wide difference between Chinese and western cultures in the humanistic connotation,religious concepts,historical causes,value orientation,and many other cultural factors,phenomena such as“cultural invisibility”,“cultural mistranslation”,and“cultural redundancy”are quite common in translation.After continuous practice and research,the author of this thesis adopts different translation methods and techniques such as literal translation,liberal translation,transliteration,explanatory translation,amplification,omission,conversion,combination,inversion,and subject addition to solve various language and cultural problems encountered in the process of translation.As translation is a special activity of cultural conversion,the cultural uniqueness contained in the original text should be properly preserved in the target text according to the objective demands and purposes,which can play a crucial role in carrying forward the national language and culture.In this way,it can be concluded that appropriate cultural translation strategies contribute to telling true stories about China in a vivid manner and building a glorious image of China to let the world know more about the charming Chinese culture. |
