Known as the "father of modern calligraphy",Yang Shoujing wrote a lot in his life,involving many academic fields,such as historical epigraphy geography,inscription catalogue,collection of classics and so on.Yang Shoujing not only collected textual research,but also focused on the history of calligraphy and calligraphy criticism.He was the author of Pingbei JI,Pingtie JI,Xueshu you yan and tracing the source of KAI FA.Yang Shoujing is an accomplished calligrapher.His calligraphy has an important impact on Japan,for Japan blew a “Yang shoujing whirlwind”,is the forerunner of modern Japanese calligraphy.In China,the rulers of the Qing Dynasty to carry out the transformation of the Manhua,the majority of the support of the scholar-officials.On the other hand,they strengthened the education of the Han people and carried out the high-pressure political and cultural policies such as the literary inquisition and the revision of history books.This objectively promotes the development of philology,epigraphy and other disciplines,and provides a reliable opportunity for calligraphy innovation.In the late Qing Dynasty,due to the invasion of the imperialist capitalist forces,the Qing government increased its foreign affairs,and officials and folk culture exchanged closely.At the same time,Japan also stopped the closed-door policy and took the initiative to accept foreign culture.The calligraphy of the Qing Dynasty inherited the style of the late Ming cursive script and gradually evolved into a dignified and restrained art style dominated by the Taigaku style,formal and respectful style dominated by the style of Parade floats.The model-calligraphy advocated by the Qing Dynasty was gradually restrained.However,the rise of Stele continued the further development of calligraphy art and broadened the writer’s creative vision.The Qing Dynasty was the first time in history to put forward the idea of Stele,which became the era of the revival of Stele,and study a new style of calligraphy dominated.Yang Shoujing lived in the era of the Qing Dynasty from prosperity to decline.As Yang Shoujing was born in a remote village in Hubei Yidu,historical materials and ancient books well-preserved,Yang Shoujing and scholars to take refuge here for exchange and study.Later,Yang Shoujing came to the capital,Japan and other places for the collision of new and old ideas,which also improved his level of experience,in the turbulent social context gradually formed his own series of calligraphy ideology.Based on the achievement and value of Yang Shoujing’s calligraphy,this paper first explains the background of Yang’s life and narrates his academic activities and representative works.Secondly,this paper classifies Yang Shoujing’s calligraphy title and postscript,summarizes its characteristics from four aspects,and finally sums up the calligraphy thought contained in Yang Shoujing’s title and postscript.At last,we understand Yang Shoujing’s aesthetic tendency of learning from teachers instead of being confined to teachers and his inspiration to later generations--learning from the past instead of being confined to the past and breaking the tradition to innovation.In recent years,the academic circle has carried on the massive research to his academic thought,and has obtained the considerable result.However,due to the limitations of the study,Yang Shoujing’s academic achievements can not be fully displayed,therefore,there are many places we need to explore. |
