The well-developed traffic system and the rapidly growing Internet have created convenient conditions for Cross Border Travel,and China has become one of the countries worldwide with the highest number of outbound tourism departures.As a cross-language and cross-culture communication activity,translation plays an important role in the development of the tourism sector.Therefore,it is particularly important to improve the overall quality of tourism translation so as to meet the crossborder travel needs of Chinese tourists,and strive to provide tourists with accurate and rich international tourism information.This report focuses on the English-Chinese translation of one of the most popular travel guides selected from the https://www.hotels.cn/go,which provides travel information for more than 80 countries and regions around the world.The guide offers introductory information about Bangkok,including the city’s scenic spots,shopping,special activities,nightlife,itineraries,food,transportation and travel tips.On the whole,the source text is a combination of informative,vocative and expressive passages featuring rich information,succinct wording and advertising style.When translating,the translator should pay more attention to the accuracy and readability of the translation,and strive to realize the informative function and evocative function of the text.The Readers’Response Theory applied in this translation practice emphasizes the central role of the reader and focuses on the feelings and the acceptance of the readers.Significantly,its main idea is to ensure that the target readers have an equivalent reading experience as the source language readers.In addition,the source information needs to be accurately conveyed at the same time.Using the Readers’ Response Theory as the theoretical basis,the author thoroughly analyzes the problems in vocabulary,sentence and discourse,and explores how to take readers’ responses into account as much as possible,with a view to making the translation readable,acceptable,and engaging for readers.Some feasible translation strategies and methods are also summarized to improve the translation quality.At the lexical level,the author adopts four-character structure transformation.extension of word meaning and annotation.At the syntactic level,amplification,reconstruction and division are discussed.The linear translation and omission are used at the textual level.Through the analysis of this translation practice,the thesis concludes that the Readers’ Response Theory contributes a great deal to improving the readability of travel guides and enhancing the readers’ reading experience.Additionally,it is hoped to provide inspiration and reference for future translation research on similar text types. |
