A Study On C-E Red Tourism Texts From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

Red culture is a major field of international publicity of Chinese culture and red tourism has not only taken on the crucial mission of promoting red culture,but it has also evolved into a window for both domestic and foreign tourists to better understand China.As a kind of introductory text,red tourism text serves as a vital link between red culture and tourists.As a result,for foreign tourists,the quality of translation of red tourism texts is especially important.However,there are still a large number of errors in the red tourism text translation in many revolutionary museums,which has an impact on the international publicity of red culture.Therefore,the study of red tourism text translation is of realistic significance.This thesis chooses the bilingual texts from the Revolutionary Museum of Soviet Capital of Hubei-Henan-Anhui Provinces as the object of study,classifies the translation errors of the texts from the perspective the three rules of Skopos theory,namely the skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule,and under the three rules,specific translation errors are statistically classified and analyzed,the types and causes of the translation errors are discussed,meanwhile,corresponding translation methods are proposed.Through the statistics and analysis of translation errors,the study found that: firstly,the translation errors of red tourism texts in this revolutionary museum are mainly divided into three types,which are violations of the skopos rule,means the translation errors are mostly literal translation that fails to convey some cultural terms’ connotation;violations of the coherence rule,which is mainly reflected in the translation’s violation of English grammar rules and language habits of target text readers;and violations of the fidelity rule,which is reflected in the omission of key information and neglect of the textual style of the source text.Secondly,translation errors are classified as phrase translation errors and sentence translation errors,and according to the two types of translation errors,specific translation errors are analyzed from the perspective of the three rules of Skopos theory.Finally,based on the analysis of translation errors,this study summarizes the external and internal aspects of the reasons for the translation errors of the red tourism texts in the revolutionary museum.The external aspects include that the layout of the translation,the competence of the translator and the translation evaluation;the internal aspects contain that language differences,cultural differences and translation methods.For the translation errors of the red tourism texts in this revolutionary museum,the thesis proposes that the translation methods of free translation,omission and amplification can effectively improve translation errors.Free translation can reveal the connotation of cultural terms and reduce cultural misunderstanding;omission can make the translation more concise and present the key information of the source text in the limited space;amplification can supplement the background information necessary to understand the text,reveal the logical relationship,and construct the context.
