| Modern science fiction started in Britain in the 19 th century and developed very rapidly in the West.In China,with the award-winning The Three Body Problem in2015,the release of Wandering Earth in 2019 and the rapid development of science and technology,science fiction received more and more attention,and therefore,the emphasis on the translation and development of science fiction is increasing.Based on perspective of the reader-centred principle,horizon of expectation and the appealing structure under the Reception Aesthetics Theory,this research selects Martha Wells’ work Network Effect as a work of translation practice material and translates the first two chapters and part of the third chapter in this translation practice.Under the guidance of Reception Aesthetics Theory,the thesis studies the application of Reception Aesthetics Theory to the E-C translation practice of science fiction respectively at lexical,syntactical and textual levels.Through the analysis of the style and language characteristics of the novel,it is found that Network Effect belongs to soft science fiction,which is a combination of literary and scientific imagination.Reception Aesthetics Theory suggests that,due to the existence of indeterminacy and blank in the text,translators need to consider the target readers when translating,and the translation should be more appropriate to the expectations and acceptability of the target readers.Through the case study,it is believed that translators should use a series of translation strategies,such as omission,amplification,and division to balance the literariness and the scientific nature to the greatest extent,and to meet the expectations and acceptability of the target readers as much as possible.This thesis serves as a reference for the Chinese translation of science fiction. |
