Strategies On The C-E Translation Of Culture-Loaded Words In President Xi Jinping’s Speeches From The Perspective Of Eco-Translatology

As China’s international status continues to rise,how to tell China’s story well is one of the most urgent problems to be solved.There are a large number of culture-loaded words in President Xi Jinping’s speeches,whose proper translation is helpful to present China in an all-around way.As a native translation theory in China,Eco-translatology includes not only micro translation principles but also macro translation philosophy.The applied studies of Eco-translatology have covered many fields,such as novels,poems,and advertisements,most of which focus on the three-dimensional transformation of Eco-translatology.However,few studies have paid attention to culture-loaded words in leaders’ speeches from the macro and micro perspectives of Eco-translatology.Therefore,based on the macro ecological concept and micro three-dimensional transformation of Eco-translatology,the present study analyzes the C-E translation of culture-loaded words in President Xi Jinping’s speeches,aiming to explore their translation characteristics and translation strategies adopted.The present study selects President Xi’s speeches at home and abroad from 2018 to 2021 as the corpus,and explores the translation strategies adopted by translators when translating the culture-loaded words from the perspective of Eco-translatology.It is found that: based on the different eco-environment of the source and target language,the translator makes appropriate adaptation and selection.There are generally three types of translation strategies adopted,namely,Source-Culture-Oriented Strategy,Target-Culture-Oriented Strategy,and An Integrated Strategy.Among them,the translator prefers the adaptation and selection to the target language to make readers understand the intention of President Xi.Furthermore,specific translation methods such as addition,omission,and transliteration have also been employed to achieve an optimal integration.In a word,the translators’ choice of translation strategy depends on the specific translation environment.In addition to satisfying the most basic purpose of communication,the translator tries to achieve the optimal integration of multiple dimensions,so as to better present China to the world and let Chinese culture go globally.The present thesis tries to apply the Chinese local theory,Eco-translatology,to China’s practice,which provides a new perspective for the research on the translation of culture-loaded words in President Xi Jinping’s speeches,as well as provides some certain guidance on the related research in the future.Meanwhile,it is also conducive to the promotion of translators’ status,so as to better spread Chinese cultures and strengthen foreign audiences’ impression of China.
