Hu Zongfeng and his co-translator Robin Gilbank,as the main translators of Shaanxi literature, have made great contributions to the “going global” of Shaanxi literature and provide reference for the “going global” of Chinese literature and culture. At present, the co-translation model of regional literature by Hu Zongfeng and Gilbank has not attracted enough attention in the academic circles. This paper takes this cotranslation model as the research object, defines the phenomenon of isomorphism of habitus and explores the components of isomorphism among several groups of actors in this co-translation process with the help of sociological “habitus” theory initiated by Pirerre Bourdieu, and then seeks the clues of this phenomenon among several actors from the aspects of life trajectory, capital and field of the local translator, foreign translator, local authors and target readers, trying to answer the two questions:(1)What components form the isomorphism of habitus phenomenon among several participants in the co-translation process?(2)How does isomorphism of habitus phenomenon effect translators’ text selection, translation thoughts and translation methods? At the same time, the evidence of “isomorphism of habitus’ ’ is excavated in the text. Finally, the phenomenon of isomorphism of habitus among the actors in this translation model is verified again by means of in-depth interview. This study may seek sociological support for the formulation of translation policy, its path and process of implementation, and expected results of China’s “going global” strategy. The research findings are as follows: the local translator and foreign translator are similar in language capital, cultural attitude and writing ability;the local translator and Shaanxi writers have similar social and cultural background, educational background and working background;the foreign translator and target readers have similar cultural background, similar understanding and aesthetic level of Chinese culture and similar language capital,so as to constitute a phenomenon of isomorphism of habitus. In the process of co-translation,isomorphism of habitus phenomenon affects the translators’ text selection, translation thought and translation methods.Specifically,Hu Zongfeng and his co-translator Robin prefer to choose literary works with Chinese elements and characteristics to translate. In terms of translation thoughts, they want to reflect the most authentic Shaanxi culture,so they do not engage in abridged versions.Translation methods including literal translation plus notes, free translation,English dialect to translate Chinese dialect and transliteration plus notes, which successfully complete the translation works, provide complete translated works with Chinese cultural characteristics for overseas readers, and greatly promote the cultural exchange between China and foreign countries.
