Research On The Interpretation Of Li Shizhen’s Compendium Of Materia Medica·Vegetable Department

Compendium of Materia Medica,written by Li Shizhen in Ming Dynasty,is a great scientific work,which not only plays an important role in the development of pharmacology and botany in China,but also provides a large amount of corpus for language study.The interpretation of names in Compendium of Materia Medica·Vegetable Department is rich in contents,involving multi-disciplinary knowledge of herbalism,exegesis,lexicology and so on.This paper takes this as the research object,analyzes the principles and methods of interpretation of names,the ways of language expression and characteristics,and points out the error of interpretation of names,so as to make corrections and supplements.This paper mainly includes the following five parts:One.Introduction.First of all,this paper summarizes the research works on Chinese vegetable naming in Compendium of Materia Medica,and summarizes the achievements and shortcomings of the existing research results.Then introduce the research content and research method,explain the research significance of this paper.Two.Chapter one,the principles and methods of interpretation the name of Compendium of Materia Medica·Vegetable Department.According to the following three principles:distinguishing proper name and alias;marking the source of proper name and alias;discriminating the same essence with different names and same name with different essence.The interpretation of the name in Compendium of Materia Medica·Vegetable Department is explained by using a variety of methods such as herbology,exegesis and lexicology: using pronunciation to interpret the name;using the right word to interpret the name;using dialect,slang,foreign language to interpret the name;quoting historical stories to interpret the name.Three.Chapter two,the language expression and characteristics of the interpretation name of Compendium of Materia Medica·Vegetable Department.In view of the different content of the name interpretation,Li Shizhen adopted three ways of expression,we summarized as “brief and direct interpretation”,“specific and indirect interpretation”,“scientific and objective comment”;By analyzing the content of interpretation,we conclude four characteristics: analogy,culture,evaluation and comparison.Four.Chapter three,the fallacy of the interpretation of the name in Compendium of Materia Medica·Vegetable Department.In this chapter,we analyze the errors of name interpretation in Compendium of Materia Medica·Vegetable Department,and summarize four types of errors,“abusing of phonetic explanation”,“taking the words too literally”,“adopting various naming reasons” and “misunderstanding transliteration of foreign words”.Five.Conclusion.This part summarizes the content of the foregoing discussion,and points out the shortcomings of this paper,hoping that future generations can conduct a more systematic and comprehensive study of “Compendium of Materia Medica·Vegetable Department ”.
