A Report On The E-C Translation Of The Invisible Drone(Excerpts)

The source text of this translation practice report is excerpted from Mike Dixon’s work The Invisible Drone.The source text is based on detective reasoning,and mainly tells the story of the protagonists Humphrey and Charlie who had experienced a series of dangers and finally found out the truth through analysis and reasoning.The Invisible Drone belongs to foreign popular literature novels,it requires the translation to be easy to understand and fascinating while not losing the style of the source language.The translation practice report is guided by Newmark’s communicative translation theory and semantic translation theory.This report mainly discusses and analyzes cases from the three levels-lexical,syntactic,and discourse,and adopts different translation strategies and methods such as free translation,co-translation and voice conversion to obtain better translations.The translation practice report consists of five chapters.Chapter one introduces the original text of translation practice and detective novels.Chapter two introduces the process of translation practice.Chapter three introduces the application and development of guiding theories.Chapter four analysis the cases from lexical,syntactic,and discourse level.Chapter five summarizes and reflects on this translation practice.Through this translation practice,it is concluded that communicative translation theory and semantic translation theory are reasonable and feasible in guiding the translation of detective novels.Through this translation practice,the author discovered limitations in the process of translation learning,but the translation ability and the ability to analyze and solve problems have been improved.At the same time,the author also hopes that this translation practice report can provide more reference materials for learners in this field.
