Gustav Mahler(1860-1911),an Austrian Jewish conductor and composer,is an outstanding representative of late romanticism in the late 19 th and early 20 th centuries.The special era background and life experience make Mahler’s music full of new modernist factors such as anxiety,helplessness,grotesque and discord.The vocal Symphony suite "song of the earth" is a mature masterpiece of Mahler’s late creation.The works are not only full of the creative characteristics of late romanticism,but also predict the music of the 20 th century,which plays a very important role as a bridge.This paper analyzes and studies the noumenon of the suite music,so as to further reveal Mahler’s late creative style and the foreshadowing and influence in his works.This dissertation includes seven chapters.Chapter I: "overview of life and creation",analyzes its influence on Mahler’s creative style from the aspects of the composer’s background and life experience;Chapter II: "analysis and Research on style characteristics",based on the creation background,systematically analyzes its musical form structure,mode and tonality,harmony style,theme motivation,polyphony and other aspects combined with music score examples to further explore the style characteristics of Mahler’s late period;Chapter III: the characteristics and influence of orchestral instruments,focusing on the analysis of the change of the style of orchestral instruments in the late Mahler creation and reveals its foreboding influence.
