The automotive industry provides important support for the Chinese economy.Driven by the China’s innovation strategy,it is inevitable that the technological level of the automobile industry should be in line with international standards.Under this background, the vehicle texts have built a bridge for enterprises to exchange technologies with foreign countries. Therefore, the research on the translation of the vehicle texts is particularly important. The material for this translation practice report is taken from chapters 2-10 of Australian heavy vehicle inspection manual published by an enterprise and has 15,719 characters in total. This manual,as a scientific and technical text, covers the basic inspection methods, fault performance, diagnostic methods, maintenance data and specifications, etc. It is difficult to translate so many professional vocabularies and complex sentence structure in the heavy vehicle inspection manual texts. Objective and accurate translation of such texts is of great significance for the development and communication of the heavy vehicle industry. Therefore,it is necessary to summarize the translation methods and techniques of such texts. This translation practice report consists of five chapters. The first chapter is the description of the translation task, which discusses the background, significance and report structure of the project. The second chapter describes the translation process in detailand describes the entire translation process from three stages: pre-translation preparation, translation implementationand post-translation reflection. The third chapter is the theoretical basisand discusses the functionalequivalence theory and its application. The functional equivalence theory is based on linguistics with the rigorous theoretical system and the theoretical point of view coincides with the principle of "faithfulness and equivalence" in the translation of heavy vehicle English texts. Therefore, the functional equivalence theory has certain feasibility in guiding the heavy vehicle English texts translation. The fourth chapter is the research focus of this report.Taking the English-Chinese translation of some chapters of the heavy vehicle inspection manual as the research object, based on the guidance of functional equivalence theory, this report uses case analysis to analyze how to use translation methods and techniques to achieve lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence and discourse equivalence between the translation and the text. The fifth chapter is a conclusion, which clarifies the findings of this translation practice, reflects on the problems in translation and puts forward some suggestions for enterprises and translators.By analyzing the text content of the heavy vehicle inspection manual, the translator found that the text content of the heavy vehicle inspection manual has the characteristics of objectivity, simplicity and professionalism.Under the guidance of the functional equivalence theory and according to the text features, this report start from three perspectives: lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence and discourse equivalence. The research suggests that translators can effectively express the content of the original text by adopting different translation methods and techniques from the three levels of vocabularies, syntax and discourse, such as conversion, amplification, division and inversion. The translator hopes that through the research and analysis of the translation of some chapters of the heavy vehicle inspection manual text,it can provide reference for the Chinese translation of parallel texts, provide reference and useful materials for heavy vehicle enterprises, promote the technical exchange of heavy vehicle industry and promote the research and development of scientific and technical English translation. |
