Zhou Daxin has unique affection for his hometown Nanyang Basin and has always been focusing on writing about the survival distress of hometown women.Through exploring the living dilemma facing Nanyang women in Zhou Daxin’s local novels and tracing the causes generating women plights, this thesis unearths the typical basin origin of their subsistence predicaments while accordingly providing references for the living and development of contemporary women as well as for the comprehensive women liberation.Chapter Ⅰ analyzes the survival dilemma faced by women in Zhou Daxin’s local novels from three aspects that are the basic survival dilemma of material hardship and individual life struggle, the emotional dilemma of loneliness and emptiness suffered in the disillusionment of love and the loss of family affection, the confusion of identity in self-pursuit and the growth dilemma between escape and return.Chapter Ⅱ studies the writing style of women’s survival dilemma in Zhou Daxin’s local novels. There are distinctive basin characteristics in Zhou Daxin’s writing of women’s survival dilemma. In addition to employing diverse images and mysterious scenes of basin features as metaphors or symbols of female subsistence predicaments,he ulteriorly utilizes exclusive narrative structures "circle type" and "Chinese nested boxes structure" to romance the realistic difficulties for females to get out of the basin. Therefore, the writing of women’s survival dilemma in Zhou Daxin’s local novels presents a unique landscape of the combination of romanticism and realism.Chapter Ⅲ explores the causes for the writing of women’s survival dilemma in Zhou Daxin’s local novels from the backward and closed basin culture, the inspiration of the painful reality faced by women in Nangyang,Zhou Daxin’s personal hometown experience and the formation of tragedy view.Chapter Ⅳ mainly analyzes the significance of women’s survival dilemma in Zhou Daxin’s local novels from two aspects of the practical enlightenment and aesthetic implication. From the practical significance,Zhou Daxin not only makes a severe reflection on male chauvinism, but also provides reference for the survival and development of contemporary women through the dual criticism of urban and rural civilization;from the aesthetic significance view,Zhou Daxin consciously constructs a female alliance in the text, which highlights his lofty desire to build an ideal harmonious world for gender.
