| With the deepening development of globalization,scientific and technological innovation has brought about earth-shaking changes in people’s lives.The level of innovation is always an crucial embodiment of a country’s core competitiveness.Therefore,the translation of sci-tech text plays a vital role in learning and communicating advanced science and technology.The source text of this practice report Chip2Chip v5.0 LogiCORE IP Product Guide,comes from the translation project that the author personally participated in during internship.This text is a typical description of science and technology.Translation of science and technology text strives to clarify precise and rigorous information and language,and do not stick to the complete correspondence between form and structure,which coincides with Catford’s Translation Shifts Theory’s core idea of “focus on content rather than form”.In view of this,the author adopts Translation Shifts Theory in translation practice,selects 24 typical cases from two aspects of level shifts and category shifts,and adopts translation methods and skills such as literal translation,free translation,division translation,and amplification to realize the shifts,such as grammar to vocabulary,passive voice to active voice,attributive postposition to attributive preposition,long sentences to clauses,so as to make the source text more in line with the expression and reading habits of the target readers.The practice has proved that Catford’s Translation Shifts Theory has certain guiding significance for the translation of scientific and technological texts.The author desires that this translation practice can be used as a reference for the translation of similar scientific and technological texts in the future. |
