Research On The Air Defense Report Of "Xinhua Daily" During The Anti-Japanese War(1938-1943)

During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression,with the fall of Shanghai,Nanjing and other places one after another,the Nationalist government moved the capital to Chongqing.In order to destroy Chongqing as the political,economic,cultural and military center of the rear,and shake the will of the Chinese people to fight against Japan,Chongqing became the main target of the Japanese strategic bombing.Under the background of difficult times,Xinhua Daily,as the only Communist Party organ published in the Kuomintang-controlled areas,exposed the cruel crimes of the Japanese invaders through continuous attention and reports on the bombing,and showed that the soldiers and civilians in Chongqing were not afraid of sacrifice and actively Dedicated to the heroic posture of air defense construction.Based on the textual analysis of 433 reports about air defense by "Xinhua Daily" during the Chongqing bombing,this article sorts out the general situation of its reports in various stages of the Chongqing bombing,and explores the fact that "Xinhua Daily",an organ of the Communist Party of China,was strictly enforced by the Nationalist government.How to use news discourse to express one’s own position and attitude under the control of news,and analyze the characteristics and functions of "Xinhua Daily" ’s air defense news report.Firstly,on the basis of clarifying the research questions and related significance,this paper sorts out the existing research results,and studies the air defense reports of the "Xinhua Daily" during the Chongqing bombing that few scholars have paid attention to.Secondly,by analyzing the historical background of the Chongqing bombing and the general situation of the development of "Xinhua Daily",the air defense reports of "Xinhua Daily" during the Chongqing bombing period are divided into three stages for research.By sorting out the number,genre,source and reporting theme of each stage of the report,and selecting the "May 3rd","May Fourth" bombing and the "June 5th" large tunnel suffocation tragedy as individual cases for detailed elaboration.Finally,the characteristics and functions of the air defense report of Xinhua Daily are summarized from the perspective of the whole and the individual.The study found that the air defense reports of Xinhua Daily during the Chongqing bombing period showed the characteristics of roundabout propaganda.It expressed its own views and positions by selectively publishing letters from readers and public figures.Secondly,It attaches great importance to the guidance of public opinion,arousing the public’s indignation against the Japanese invaders through editorials and short comments.Also,it calls on the citizens of Chongqing to actively participate in the anti-bombing struggle.Finally,it has always adhered to and maintained the principles and policies of the anti-Japanese national united front in air defense reporting and propaganda,with the purpose of promoting unity,and cooperating with the national government’s air defense propaganda,and put forward pertinent and feasible suggestions.It can be seen that although Xinhua Daily is subject to strict news control in the Kuomintang area,it still promotes the views and attitudes of the Chinese Communist Party in its news reports,and actively plays a role in disseminating air defense knowledge,exposing the crimes of the Japanese army,and inspiring the people’s anti-war spirit.
