Research On The Teaching Design Ability Of Volunteer Chinese Language Teachers For Foreign Children Based On Teaching Plan Contents

Abstract/Summary:
Over recent years,the younger age of the oversea Chinese language learners has grown to a notable trend worldwide currently,and teenagers are featuring the mainstay of Chinese language learning.Chinese teaching education for children is gaining a higher significance in teaching chinese to speakers of other languages.Meanwhile,at present the domestic studies on Chinese language education for foreign children is still in an initial stage,and yet there are a few studies on teaching design ability of volunteer Chinese language teachers for children oversea.Teaching design skills are an important part of teacher’s teaching ability.The analysis of teaching design in this study covers eight areas,including abilities to understand and analyse students,to prepare objectives,to restructure content,to design the teaching process,the to select strategies,to design flexibly,to express language and to reflect and evaluate.First,the thesis collects 27 plans in actual teachings from 10 volunteer Chinese language teachers who have taught children of other languages in different countries,and also discusses and analynizes through content analysis.Besides,questionnaires and interviews with 10 volunteer Chinese language teachers for children are also launched.This thesis analyzes their feedback after practice in Chinese teaching for young learners,reflection on the improvement of teaching abilities,and expectation on pre-teaching training.Through the analysis of the teaching plan contents and questionnaire returns,the author comes out with the conclusion that volunteer Chinese language teachers for children mainly perform well in teaching abilities of understanding and analysing students,reorganising contents,designing processes and selecting strategies,which can also be further improved,while there are obvious deficiencies specifically in preparing teaching objectives,selecting teaching strategies,designing flexibility,expressing language and reflecting and evaluating.All these volunteer Chinese language teachers for children hope to improve their skills in various areas during the pre-teaching training so that they can optimise teaching design for children afterwards.Based on the above analysis,the author addresses the shortcomings reflected in the text of the teaching plan and the results of the questionnaire returned to explores the causes of the problems in designing teaching plans by volunteer Chinese language teachers for children.And further more,incorporating specific dimensions that influence teaching design,this thesis makes targeted suggestions for the training of volunteer Chinese language teachers to be sent out oversea,as well as ways and means to improve their own teaching design skills,wishing to provide some reference for volunteer Chinese language teachers for children in the future.
