Cultural textbooks occupy an important position in Chinese textbooks, and knowledge textbook is an important component of them.It has always been an important issue for the compilers of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.Through reading the literature,we find that the research results of cultural projects are still relatively few,and there are some problems in the compilation of cultural textbooks.Due to the long-term lack of the guidance of cultural syllabus, the orientation of cultural textbooks is inaccurate, and the selected learning content lacks pertinence. As for the selection of cultural items, the arrangement is unreasonable, and large and complete cultural contents are often selected, without actual investigation to understand the actual needs of students. The research objects of this paper are Chinese Culture(Han Jiantang)and This is China(FLTRP).The former is a widely used textbook in the field of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, and the latter is a newly published cultural textbook.Through the comparison of the two textbooks,we try to find out their respective advantages and disadvantages, inherit their respective advantages and improve their corresponding disadvantages,so as to provide reference suggestions for the compilation of cultural textbooks in the future. This paper uses data analysis, questionnaire survey and comparative analysis to study the two textbooks.First of all, based on the table of cultural items in CUHK,this paper counts the number of cultural items in the two textbooks respectively, makes relevant charts, and analyzes the chart data.We find that This is China is richer in cultural items, and the number of cultural items is more diverse. At the same time, the cultural content is mainly Chinese daily culture. In Chinese Culture, the content of achievement culture accounts for the largest proportion, and the introduction of related cultures is more detailed and in-depth.Secondly,we use the comparative analysis method to compare the differences between the two textbooks from three aspects: arrangement system, design and cultural content. We find that the structures of the two textbooks are similar. In terms of design, the number of charts in the two textbooks is roughly the same, but the color pictures in Chinese Culture are more attractive. In terms of content,Chinese Culture selects more ancient cultural content, while the text is longer. Then, the questionnaire survey is used to understand the cultural needs of students. The survey subjects are all foreign students who are learning Chinese from18 countries. Finally,it is found that the five cultural items that students are most interested in are food customs, study and work, residence and life, holiday customs and language. From the above,it can be found that students are more eager to know the contents of Chinese daily culture and customs,so the setting of cultural items in This is China is more in line with students’ interest needs. Finally, based on the previous research results, combined with the research results of this paper, this paper summarizes the five major problems in the compilation of cultural textbooks from five angles: textbook positioning, cultural content, discourse style, awareness of cross-cultural communication, and three-dimensional degree of compilation, and puts forward some improvement suggestions for each problem. After a comparative analysis of the two textbooks, the author believes that from the perspective of setting up cultural items,This is China has richer categories of cultural items and more reasonable arrangement. In terms of structure and content arrangement, the two textbooks have their own merits. The structure arrangement of Chinese Culture is richer, while the graphic design of This is China is more attractive. In terms of learning interest,This is China is closer to students’ learning needs.
