| In the artistic creation since postmodernism, identity and self-construction are the themes often involved by artists, especially female artists.Through the case analysis of Cindy Sherman’s artistic creation, the author demonstrates that role-playing,as the artistic strategy behind the image,is a mapping method often used by artists for identity resolution and self reconstruction. However,in the research on Cindy Sherman at home and abroad, the dissolution of her identity in her creation is often equated with the dissolution of the artist’s subjectivity.Sherman herself once said that "I just happen to be my own model",emphasizing that taking herself as a model is actually an accidental choice, rather than narcissistic or boastful intention. This paper aims to analyze the creative process of artists through role-playing,demonstrate the profound meaning of identity and self construction behind identity resolution, and refute the view that role-playing is equivalent to the subjective resolution of "the death of the author" in previous studies. |
