As one of the main categories of photography,portrait photography has more and more penetrated into all areas of our life during the development of nearly 200 years.In the early days of photography,photographers took objective records as the sole criterion for judging the quality of photographs due to technical limitations.With the constant updating and improvement of technology,portrait photography has a new direction.The content and artistic of Photos can be conveied with new idea.More photographers try to seek the style of unmistakable photos,and photography as a creative medium to express own artistic exploration of beauty.With the combination of historical background and class distinction,the subjects are eager to reconstruct the identity through photography.Identity formation not only exists in the people’s yearning for the archetypes,public figures or their own image,but also becomes one of the important channels of conceptual expression of photographers.This text mainly adopts the historical research method,individual case and comprehensive research method,and studies the identity of portrait photography from three main aspects.First,the concept and historical development of portrait photography is defined and comb,and combined with the objective conditions of historical development,social culture and the historical background,the influence of the mass aesthetic psychology,postmodern art in the aspects of identity shaping in portrait photography and causes are analyzed and interpretation.And the main research object is the image works of Cindy Sherman in 1975-2008.To analyze her identity formation in the image shaping performance characteristics of ideology,role playing and self-perception and the deconstruction and reconstruction for identity,and in the fourth chapter mainly analyzed the shape ’identity formation’ in the application of contemporary photography,and even the identity formation-of-Cindy Sherman shape inspired and influenced by a contemporary photography in China.
