| Mo Youzhi(1811 ~ 1871),a epigraphist,textual research scientist,catalogue edition scientist,calligrapher and an important member of Song Poetry School in the late Qing Dynasty,he and Zunyi Zhengzhen were called "Southwest Giant Confucianism".Mo Youzhi lived in the "harvest era" of the Stele Study Movement of the Qing Dynasty.He,as an outstanding representative,opened a stronger and freer writing style of seal script since Deng Shiru.His existing seal script works,of course,are few and scattered,and the stages of his works are not obvious.Except local scholars in Guizhou,it has received little attention,his calligraphy achievements,besides,are far covered up by his catalogue,edition and poetics.His artistic achievement of seal script,without doubt,grew up in the academic atmosphere of epigraphy in Qianjia of the Qing Dynasty.His family origin,artistic friendship,stele thought and the conscious pursuit of personal style contributed to the formation of Mo Youzhi’s seal script style.This paper aims to sort out his calligraphy learning experience,contrast it with other eminent seal writers in the same period,reveal the peculiarity of his seal writing style,and conduct the analysis of the causes of his style by Mo Youzhi’s living environment,visiting monuments and making friends and the calligraphy notion in his works,based on this,it elaborates the effect of his style on future generations,and tries to clarify Mo Youzhi’s objective positioning in the calligraphy world of the Qing Dynasty,thus makeing people more objective and comprehensive understanding of Mo Youzhi’s artistic achievements. |
