Maria Szymanowska(October 22,1789-July 25,1831),born in an upper-middleclass family in Warsaw,was a Polish female composer and pianist in the early Romantic period.She had been endowed with an exceptional musical environment since childhood,due to superior material conditions and her parents’ passion for salon arts.In her short life,she composed hundreds of works related to piano and salon,including Nocturne,Romance,Etude,Polonaise and Mazurka,among other classical genres of the Romantic period.As one of the great pianists and composers of her time,Szymanowska not only became the most popular hostess in salon activities.Meanwhile she is a represented a strong-willed mother and an independent woman.Despite the prejudice of the general public,she conquered the audience and music critics with extraordinary musical talent.Finally,Szymanowska,an independent female musician,became the leading artists of her generation,alongside great men such as Hummel and Field.“Nocturne in B-flat Major” represents one of her most popular works.In this paper,the music ontology was analyzed with an in-depth exploration of its structure.Besides,performance techniques were also summarized.This paper is aimed to bring the female musician,who has been forgotten by Western music history,back to people’s vision through a detailed introduction and analysis of the composer and her works,and provide some reference for music professionals in relevant research.
