| This translation report is based on the English-Chinese translation of Guizhou Hai P’a Miao in Volume 15 A of the humanities edition in the Journal of West China Border Research Society,1944.The selected chapters tell the history,people,society and economy,occupation,food,clothing,social customs,marriage system and funeral system of Hai P’a Miao in Guizhou province.This English-Chinese translation report presents and summarizes the process of this translation practice.Based on the analysis of the source text,the translator chose the Eco-translatology theory to guide the translation practice.It advocates to carry out adaptive transformations from three dimensions,i.e.the linguistic,cultural and communicative dimensions,so as to keep the balance and harmony of the translational eco-environment.The translator analyzed the characteristics of the source text on the basis of the following three dimensions.From the linguistic dimension,the source text contained a large number of geographic nouns of Wade-Giles romanization,the characteristic words of Hai P’a Miao,long and complex sentences and passive sentences.From the cultural dimension,the source text covered some background information and expressions unique to the Hai P’a Miao.From the communicative dimension,the source text aimed to faithfully express the researcher’s viewpoint and delivered the research results.In light of the above-mentioned features,the translator strove to deal with these issues by using the translation techniques such as omission,amplification,reconstruction of the sentences and footnotes and discussed the guiding role and practical application of the theory in the translation practice with specific translation cases.Through the translation practice,the translator hoped to provide some valuable references for similar translations and some references and supplementation for researchers in the field of ethnic minorities in southwest China. |
