This report is based on the C-E translation of Travelling around Zhenfeng(Experts)whose author is Xu Wenli born in Guizhou Province.The excerpted chapters are Chapter One “The Magic from Panjiang Stone” and Chapter Five “The Everlasting Folk Custom”,in which the author introduces Zhenfeng County,Shuangru Peaks,Panjiang stone,as well as the colorful minority cultures of the Gelao and Bouyei People.Guided by Eco-translatology,the translator analyzes the translation of the selected material from linguistic dimension,cultural dimension,and communicative dimension.In linguistic dimension,the translator adopts the translation skill of conversion to deal with the translation of verbs.Besides,translation skills of addition,restructuring,as well as combination are adopted according to the syntactical differences between English and Chinese.In cultural dimension,for culture-loaded words with local characteristics,on the one hand,the translator selects counterparts in the target culture for translation;on the other hand,the translator adopts translation methods and skills such as transliteration plus annotation and literal translation to convey the cultural information to the target readers.In communicative dimension,the main communicative intention of the source text is to introduce Zhenfeng County to the readers.Therefore,the translator adopts the translation skill of omission to deal with the redundant information in the source text.For some sentences that need background knowledge to understand,the translator adds related information to transmit the communicative purpose of the source text to the greatest extent.Under the guidance of Eco-translatology,the translator carries out the translation practice from three dimensions,in which different translation methods and skills are adopted to deal with translation difficulties,hoping that this report can provide enlightenment for other translators.
