| Electronic games as a medium and culture have been increasingly discussed in recent years, and in the context of contemporary art, some art museums and artists have begun to embrace electronic games and intersect with this emerging medium. An examination of electronic game practices in existing contemporary art museums reveals that they are not as well integrated in the museum space as other typical media works, and that electronic games are like outsiders in the museum. The neglect of this situation will inevitably lead to the obscuring of the special development direction of the medium of electronic games, which cannot even be regarded as an independent and mature medium in the context of contemporary art. This paper will observe this phenomenon from the creator’s perspective, synthesize the relevant contents of ludology, reveal the relationship between electronic games and art museums,re-examine the unique aesthetic approach of electronic games, and propose a creative possibility of electronic game art,so that electronic game works can be better integrated into the space of art museums and contemporary art contexts. This integration is not a simple reuse of traditional media methodology, but a rediscovery of the characteristics of the video game medium itself. |
