| In 1956,Colin Rowe and Robert Slatsky published 《Transparency I》.After citing Gy?rgy Kepes definition of transparency in 《Language of Vision》and discussing the characteristics of transparency in Cubist painting, they went on to extend the study of transparency to modern architecture, while distinguishing between literal transparency and phenomenal transparency. The concept of transparency first appeared in visual theory, and then through the study of transparency in modernist painting,a theory of transparency for analyzing and commenting on modernist architecture was developed.Although this theory originated from modernist painting,it has not been systematically studied in depth in painting, but only as a precursor to modern architectural theory. The thesis will clarify the development of the theory of transparency in modern art by sorting out and verifying the literature, based on the analysis of transparency in Cubist paintings in Transparency I,continue to study the characteristics of transparency in Cubist paintings in depth, and study the embodiment of the characteristics in paintings of different periods, compare the difference of transparency in modern paintings in different periods before and after Cubism, and integrate the characteristics of transparency in modern paintings in different periods. We will compare the differences between modern painting before and after Cubism, and integrate the characteristics of transparency in modernist painting in different periods. The development process of transparency is essentially a transformation of the artist’s understanding of the realism of the depicted object, which was understood differently in different periods.Leaving aside the transparency that characterizes Cubist painting, its essence is a desire for and recognition of authenticity. |
